This was too hilarious not to link.  I almost want to go read the actual children's book now.  Poor Squeakers!

Not to mention the thought of a mole and a squirrel...

Aaaaah! I had those Serendipity books! Good flashbacks! I always adored Leo the Lop---it was actually nice and innocent and had a good moral, too. (More adults should remember that "normal" is however you naturally are.)

More recently I was having those flashbacks and looked up the series in the library. I don't remember Squeakers, but I did find Crickle-Crack; god, it was hilarious! XD The squirrels eat stuff off this evil gnarled black tree and it destroys their lives ('cuz it's about DRUGS you see and how EVIL DRUGS will destroy your life!), and in the end the squirrels burn the tree, but on the last page it sprouts again like the villain of a horror movie! I LMAO'd! (Probably not the effect they were going for.)

I could swear I watched an animated version of that as a kid, only they used actual pills and this big black mean rat-squirrel drug dealer to show drugs are bad instead of a black tree.
